ListServs
Hundreds of LISTSERVs have developed around Blindness and Visual
Impairment. Joining a LISTSERV is like putting your e-mail address
on a mailing list. When e-mail is sent to the LISTSERV, it is
automatically sent to everyone on the list. The messages and
postings are typically only available to the members of the LIST. The Listserv is a tool to allow you to send a message or a question to a
large group of people at one time. The "Lists" are usually composed
of people with similar interest.
Below are lists that have developed
in Vermont and New Hampshire designed to facilitate communication between
people who are interested in issues relating to blindness and visual
impairment. Current subscribers
of VTBlind and NHBlind-Talk include consumers, parents and other family
members, and professionals.
The Special Services Unit of the Vermont
Department of Libraries is beginning its own email list, called
TALKBKS. This will be a way for the library to communicate with its
patrons, and for patrons to ask questions that other patrons may
also want the answers to. The quarterly Special Services newsletter
will appear here in electronic form, along with other messages that
can't wait for the newsletter. The list may also serve as a place
for talking book patrons to recommend books to each other. We don't
anticipate that this will be a high-volume list. If you are
interested in signing up for TALKBKS, or have questions about it,
please send an email to
teresa.faust@mail.dol.state.vt.us .
Vermont
Blind Talk was created to allow Blind and Visually Impaired people in
Vermont the opportunity to discuss any issues relating to Blindness and
visual impairment.
To subscribe to the list, please complete
the form at
http://lists.dad.state.vt.us/mailman/listinfo/vtblind or send an
e-mail with
just the word subscribe as the subject.
NHBlind-Talk was created with
the encouragement of agencies and organizations of and for Blind and
Visually impaired people in New Hampshire. The purpose of this listserv is
to provide a forum through which people can share information and discuss
issues, events, and resources affecting people in New Hampshire with
visual impairment.
